GI Maintenance Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION: Supervise and perform the maintenance and repair of all plant and operating facilities and wide variety of complex equipment (mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and plumbing) to assure continuous, safe and efficient operations.


  • Develop, implement, and maintain Everyday Focus activities to ensure continuous improvements and cost efficiencies in position and department.
  • Develop and implement procedures for selecting and training new department employees, update training as necessary. Evaluate performance to assure adherence to performance standards, taking corrective steps as required. Hire, evaluate, counsel and discipline employees as necessary and appropriate.
  • Assign employees to daily tasks of maintaining, repairing and modifying plant equipment. May assist in emergency repairs and or projects in the meal plant and wastewater treatment plant, providing specific instructions and/or objectives as required and follow up to assure completion of tasks.
  • Coordinate department issues and workloads with the Maintenance Director or Maintenance Manager in order to minimize interruption of production.
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed without maintaining excess inventory. Recommend capital equipment replacements and additions.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments in types of facilities and equipment used in order to contribute to Company effort to retain or improve competitive market position in the industry.
  • Assist in the development, organization, implementation and maintenance of a continuing safety training program for crew members.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with company policy by closely monitoring the safe use of equipment and work habits in and around the work area. Responsible for staying abreast of current company policies as they relate to safety, environmental issues, etc.


  • Perform other duties as directed or required.


  • High school diploma plus two years of college or relevant vocational degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in an industrial maintenance environment, 5 years must include supervisory responsibility.
  • Prior experience with diesel power generation equipment and industrial fire tube boilers is required.
  • Must be well versed in OSHA industrial regulations, EPA air quality regulations, and Environmental compliance regulations.
  • Must have, supervisory level, involvement with the PSM (Process Safety Management) ammonia refrigeration program.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and maintenance CMM software. Knowledge of AutoCad is a plus.
